Phil Roper to retire from GB Hockey to join England Badminton

It comes with a heavy heart to announce that Phil Roper will be retiring from international hockey. Phil has been an amazing ambassador for Y1 Hockey since joining us in 2017. We cannot thank him enough for his service to growing the brand. He has informed us that he will be retiring after the Tokyo Olympics to launch his career in his true passion.

Phil has been an extremely talented badminton player since a young age and the time has now come to turn his hand to a new sport. This isn't the first time that England Badminton have approached Phil and he is in the process of preparing for The Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games. Behind closed doors Phil has been honing his badminton skills and has really impressed the England Head Coach.

A spokesperson from England Badminton has said "Phil Roper has been on our radar since he was 13. We've requested many times for him to join the national training squad without much success. We are delighted that he has now made the decision to switch, and we can't wait to see him on the court at Birmingham 2022."

In light of this news, we have been working with Phil on launching Y1 Badminton. He will be the face of our new badminton brand, and are very excited to delve into this new journey with him. You can follow Y1 Badminton on Instagram here for all the latest updates.
